Work In Progress # 6

Aug 6
2 min read

Today, I hopped on the train to go to the gym and it was packed with local high school students. I looked at my phone and saw that it was August 6th. August 6th, and kids were going back to school. Summer was over. And I asked myself, where did it go?

Talen's dope ass Palword Base.
This is where it went.

Since releasing its 1.0 in early July, I've been dumping hours a day into Palworld.

I wasn't lying.

I won't go all game jurno on you, but I'll say it's deserved every amount of positive press it's gotten than more. And the mods I've loaded it with make the game even more fun.

So yeah, that's where my summer went. It's not all I did though. As I said in my last post I spent a good chunk of summer re-writing the first chapters of Book four and uploaded a preview of it for you to read.

I got some feedback behind the scenes and took some times to implement them. Some of that feedback included the song Will and Ashley are listening to on the train platform. I changed it from Radiohead's "Optimistic" (which I still think fits the mood) to Musiq Soulchild's "Just Friends (Sunny).

That song choice just makes sense. And I'm hitting myself for not thinking about it. But that's the power of feedback. Getting other eyes on a project to see the things you didn't. Here's a snippet of the revision:

Now with that out of the way. I was able to write two new chapters over the summer. Both of these chapters were written from scratch. They weren't re-writes of the original draft. Here are the previews.

Lesson 9: Temptations

Marissa interviewing Krystal for the school's TV news broadcast.

This chapter gives Nathan some screentime which I want to give him even more of. Then it switches over to Krystal, who suffers the first blow to her student council campaign. Both Nathan and Krystal are tempted into doing things they know aren't right.

Lesson 10: Denial

Will and the members of the Cyan Collective.

In this chapter, Will learns more about the Vision and why he shouldn't ignore what it tells him. Meanwhile he continues to deny his feelings.

As always, your feedback is welcome and appreciated. I'll keep on writing and will have new chapters to show you. Hopefully by next summer.
